Curiously, I recently found myself watching a few episodes of Mirai Sentai Timeranger to compare it against Power Rangers Time Force (one of my favourites) and liked it quite a bit. The time travel aspects are, in my opinion, handled better in Timeranger than in Time Force, particularly in regards to the stories of Captain Ryuya (Time Force's Alex) and Naoto's Timefire (Time Force's Eric, the Quantum Ranger). I don't want to spoil it too much for those who haven't watched it but Timefire is more integral to the plot of Timeranger than the Quantum Ranger was to the plot of Time Force. It is also more dramatic than its American counterpart as it pulls no punches in exploring the questions of fate and whether it can be changed. The music also has (at least) a few excellent tracks, particularly towards the final episodes. The acting is superior to my mind as well, or mabye it's because I can't understand what they're saying lol. Nah, I kid. As an example, take Timeranger's episode 48 ( Time Force's episode 38) and allow me to go into spoilers for a bit. If you've watched either show, you can probably guess what scene I'm talking about. It's the one where Tatsuya/Wes tricks his friends into boarding the time ship so he can save them by sending them back to their time. It's a powerful scene in both series but it's a bit less so in Time Force due to a couple of bad lines, some half-hearted deliveries (I'm looking at you, Lucas), and the scene constantly reinforcing that Wes is going to die. In comparison, the same scene in Timeranger is much more subdued (and has better music!). Neither Yuuri (at first) nor Ayase need to say anything, the expression on their faces is enough to tell us they understand Tatsuya's sacrifice. Tatsuya himself doesn't feel the need to spell it out for them like Wes does. Timeranger's is simply the superior scene in all respects. The only downside so far was the abrupt ending to Timeranger as opposed to Time Force. They defeat the villain and instantly get transported to the future? Yeah, right. Has anyone else watched it? If so, a few questions. - Is there anything more to Tatsuya's and Yuuri's story? - I suspect there is no Battlizer in Timeranger, correct?
