I’ve also been playing the new Fire Emblem, and also think it is the best one compared to the 3DS titles. I should ge around to playing Path of Radiance and Echoes soon.
I do have a few grievances. I absolutely hate the fact that the protagonist doens’t have any dialogue unlike Robin, Alm, Corrin and Celica. This whole thing with Japanese games always making the protagonist a Silent protagonist annoys me, I like it in Persona because the protagonist is at least a bit more expressive whereas in this game they might as well be a Piece of plywood with a face drawn on it. I don’t play Fire Emblem for the roleplaying aspect anyway, but I get it. Persona is a popular and succesful franchise, so of course other developers want to cash in on that formula (see Dark Souls, Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty and Gears of War as examples) At least let me customize them then. There is also a lot of jank in the game, you can definitely see that most of thedevelopment of this game was handled by Koe and not Intelligent Systemsi, because the environment design of the monastery looks as janky as a Dynasty Warriors title. Plus the weird 3D perspective in combat just feels unnecessary. Also, while I like the calendar system in Persona, I feel that system has run its course.
What I like about this game, unlike any other Fire Emblem, is how it presents its world building. In a lot of ways, it feels like this game has taken a lot of inspiration from the Trails games than Persona in regards to its world building. In previous Fire Emblem, factions, lore were thinly veiled world dressing, here it feels fleshed out and makes it easier to care about the world. The characters also feels more well written in line with Persona, and the Trails games. The combat is also still Classic Fire Emblem, it is hard to get used to not having the triangle system anymore.
