I generally enjoyed DAI, and I felt it was a good game. It had good characters in my opinion, having it designed so that you couldn't be best friends with everyone like in DAO and DA2 was refreshing, and I genuinely felt like as sloppy as the story was, it was a pretty decent one as far as fantasy romps were concerned. I felt as invested in it as i did in stopping thee darkspawn or in doing whatever it was I was doing in kirkwall.
For me though, some of the problems I had were in certain characters. Mainly, the ones who didn't show up on screen or at all. All these books and such you read between DAO and DA2, learning about them, reading about what happened, getting hyped, and then half of them are no-shows, and the other half might as well have been no-shows. Gaspard, Fiona, Briala, all of them bland and boring, and you don't get even a cutscene with Imshael, the goddamn hyped up eldrich horror from Masked Empire. Makes me glad Lambert was dead, or his character would have been butchered to boring NPC status as well. It made it feel pointless to know all the info about this stuff, when the game just brushes over it like it as nothing. Also the main plot I enjoyed going through, for the most part. I felt like I was dismantling Corypheus's powerbase satisfyingly and I was happy with how the game was playing out.
But then boom, it doesn't matter anymore. The Eluvian was just a red hearing the whole time, didn't even matter a single fuck to the story. Corypheus could just tear the fade open at any time he wanted to it seemed, which made his gathering power and all that for what exactly? Why'd he wait till he was at his lowest point to do it if he could do it at any time? The whole thing felt like it was just a cheap way to get a boss-arena spawned for us to fight in.
