That Gold belongs in a German museum-it being German Gold and all.

I look at it this way war time plunder-the last holder was the Third Reich and therefore it's succesor state should inherit it.

It's no different from the Soviets plundering German and Polish plutonium or the Americans, French and British hijacking German scientists.

It being a piece of history that ties into a German state warrants to me it go there, after all even if it happened to be the very thing you proposed it might-Those holders are deceased and their countries of origin-vary sporadically. So with no real place to return it, I say give it to the Germans to house in a Museum, it can be like the Tibetan Silver and Gold housed in China that was looted in the 60s or the various bits of Spanish Gold decorating England and France. Just because its war related history doesn't mean its not something to remember. I'd argue its even more important to remember then.

I'd probably be inclined to agree with handing it over to Germany, but regardless of where it goes it should go into a museum somewhere. At least the part that isn't bodies or chemical weapons.

It's history, even if it's history of a group that performed monstrous acts. That makes it all the more important that we never forget it.

Well, Auschwitz has been turned into a valuable museum, for the purpose of making sure it's history is not forgotten. I'm sure parts of this discovery will also eventually be on public display in Poland, near the site of it's recovery. They'll have to do something soon as the situation is becoming difficult to manage with all the treasure hunters flocking to the area. People can do the dumbest things, such as the guy who almost got hit by a train while taking a selfie...
