Because it is lazy. If they really wanted women to get better parts in movies, they would have made the effort to write good parts for them. Hand-me-down characters like they are getting now is just cringe. I'd happily go see a Lady Sif solo movie. Or Valkyrie, or any other Asgardian hero, male or female. Or heck, a human gaining Asgardian powers for that matter. But giving said human the name and identity of an already-existing character is just lazy, and disrespects both the original and shows lack of confidence in the new character. It says the newbie hasn't got what it takes to stand on her own merits. "The guy is done with this part now, lady. You can have it. You have to use the name of the male character, though. Otherwise it won't sell". Side note. Cliffhanger is getting a remake too....with a female lead. More lazy crap.
