And when it comes down to it.
When I do say 'I prefer this in 4 over that in 5'
It can't be anything other than my feelings saying that, feelings that can't be justified in any critical way because even I will say 'P5 did it this way, but it worked because that's what it wanted to do'.
lol P5 is so good that I can't really make a solid case against it.
Which is fine, because I don't want to.
There is no/few narrative functions/writing elements in 4 that far surpasses 5 and especially not in the PT as a core group, but I think those feelings I have are still valid.
Since all those feelings are is what I personally enjoy in characters. And a big thing with me is humour. And surface level elements are completely fine when taking characters into account. God knows that Hamlet is a far better written character than Richard III but I can't help but adore him. Why? Because he's hilarious. And a big thing in Thor's characterisation with the Marvel movies was actually humour, that level of humanity that wasn't quite there before.
Another example.
Everybody knows I don't like Ryuji, but not because he's an asshole/poorly written but because he's bitter and consistently so. Are there good reasons? Absolutely. Is he well-rounded, well-written, well-done? Yep. But I still can't stand the guy.
Like House notes November 20th, and that's when the PT gang display a level of competence as yet unseen in a Persona game. That doesn't matter as much to me, impressive as it is. But I do know House LIKES competent characters and when things happen so it makes sense it made his knob explode.
So in that sense.
PT and me didn't click as much for very superficial reasons but not, I feel, awful/heathen ones.
And yes, I am aware that I also dislike Puck and Isodoro in Berserk for being the 'comic relief', but that's a whole different story and I don't I need to defend my position further.
