Not going to pretend that a ton of effort went into writing about the ranks but at least some went into ordering them!
1. Empress - Haru: Found her to be precious, warm, caring. Being there for her and help her find her own courage and strength is just so rewarding. Seeing her take charge of her life for the first time and hear her say that she'd be stuck in a horrible life with her horrible fiance if not for your support in her growth warms my heart. The icing on the cake is her clearly stating that she's so happy to be in love with you and that she look forward to a future with you. Her wanting to open a café that focus on giving the most pleasant experiences that are full of warmth and love also worked so well with me since I always envisioned my MC to work in just that kind of café after all the time spent in Leblanc. She's handled poorly by Atlus but this just makes the time that I spend with this precious cinnamon bun that much more valueable. A fair bit of what makes her so interesting is also the dialogue that can be heard throughout Mementos. How this kind, caring, intelligent and observant girl.. gets excited and shivers when slaying shadows. Saying this while wielding a huge axe and say it with a smile, how could I possibly ever fall for someone else. She was always meant to be the one.
2. Hierophant - Sojiro: Possibly one of the best father figure characters I've encountered in any media to date. The way his story is handled is exquisite. The development from a seemingly grumpy older guy that actually is trying to keep his distance to not get invested to the father figure that is willing and able to put himself in the line of fire to protect the promising youth he cares for hit all the right cords in my heart. I love this guy because he's not the authoritive, strict and unbending father figure and instead opts to trust in the ones he care for to grow and learn in life while doing his best to steer them from the most awful parts of the world. He is the hero in the shadows that serve the best coffee and curry you will ever find.
3. Sun - Yoshida: My comrade! This is how you write a character that has taken a beating in the world and make it interesting to watch him act and behave. Yoshida is an example to us all on how to never stop trying to make the world better and his personality is inspiring and fucking cool. Through him we learn the value of not carrying grudges, how to let nasty words of others to not drag us down and this is a lesson I know that I can learn so much from. Yoshida proves that good people make mistakes and also that it's never too late to try again despite them. Stand up for yourself folks!
4. Hermit - Futaba: She gave Haru a run for the money for so long that it was only by the time I reached mid-november that I was certain who I'd romance. I love her eccentric nature, her mind and how she simply is as a character. She feel so familiar and her development is one I will never tire of seeing. I dont buy the "break someone out of their shell" shit so it's incredible to see her being accepted for who she is while gradually introducing her back to the world she live in. Being her key item was a great honor because that imply an immense level of trust from her onto us and to be her pillar of support as she spread her wings and do some really brave things is so awesome.
5. Temperance - Kawakami: Best teacher! and top quality maid! She lives the same kind of double life that we do and therefor I feel a lot closer to her than I otherwise would. Her story is heartbreaking but that makes it so much more heartwarming to see her take a stand and with our help break free from the chains that held her back and that she now once again vowes to be the best teacher and guardian of the students that she can possibly be. She's a really kickass adult that will guide many people right in life. Her relaxed nature will be so useful for so many people and her rallying the school to help Joker proves how far she has come!
6. Star - Hifumi: This is probably the closest a confidant will ever reach with stuff I've personally dealt with in life. That is the expectations placed upon me by near and dear plus so many other people that frankly got no right to do so. Hifumi is a precious person that got a wonderful personality and does her best to please the ones around her while forgetting herself and what she loves in the process. So to be here during her journey to realising that she need to take control of her life and that it's okay if she prioritze what she want in life over what her mother want. Plus her eccentric commander nature is just so damn awesome.
7. Chariot - Ryuji: Brouji I didn't at all think much off during the long years up to P5 release. Never really hit it off with the first guy we get into our team but with Ryuji it was a smash hit from the go. A fellow outcast that understands our situation so well and underneath that rough exterior he put up there is a really, really nice person that cares so much and want to do so much good that it was impossible to not love the guy. His confidant story is amazing and the guy we learn through it is exactly the kind of person I would love to call my best friend.
8. Priestess - Makoto: Miss uptight president that at times is more the leader of the PTs than we ever were sure can annoy those around her but that's because she tries so hard to do good and help the ones around her and that is the result of feeling useless and a burden to Sae. Her confidant might not be the best and sometimes forget that she should be the focus but in the end what enter is 180 from what we meet in the end. Gone is the "useless burden" and instead we have a mature, confident and warm person that carry her justice with her and will make the world better!
9. Fortune - Chihaya: I adore this character. I also quite love how the whole relationship with this character start. Starting off by swindling me out of 100,000 yen takes some courage and yet she's also a coward as a result from the background we hear her tell during the confidant. That she's just a normal rural girl that got. That she got preyed upon by nasty people that know their stuff when she was the most vulnerable add that extra when through her and with her we set out to prove that nothing is certain and that everything is possible and the combination of this lesson plus her just craft a delightful story!
10. Death - Tae: Who is bae! Her unique personality never bored me and I her story is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. She cared so much and got burned due to it because she was too good at what she was doing. Skilled and warm as a doctor is a dangerous combo and she suffered for it. Makes it all the much better to help her gain connections with the people around her and and her story is really good!
11. Hanged Man - Iwai: A huge part of why I like this guy is the scene when he talk with his contacts of the underworld to make sure Joker is safe. That and his story is pretty cool because it deals with darker elements of the lower parts of society and yet carry so much hope about a brighter future and a future he tries to create for the people he live for.
12. Magician - Mona: Wasn't sure if I should include it or how to judge it. Suppose I still quite adore stories about self-discovery and figuring out ones purpose and reason for existing enough for Mona to end up here
13. Lovers - Ann: Despite what her ranking might say I do like her quite a lot and the main reason why she is down here is not for a fault of her own but how I just simply adore her a tiny bit less than the ones above her. Her character is delightful and her story is inspiring. She and her story also proves that simplicity is not something to look down her. Her story is simply about becoming a character that can inspire others and I just love to see that because that's what the world need more. People that inspire others to do better and that's all that it takes to make a better world.
14. Strength - Wardens: Easily my favorite connection to the velvet room that we've had so far and and their story and the puzzle that existed in trying to figure them out make the confidant far better than I expected it to be and it was awesome to see them interact with each other and us the player and just how they kept changing without anyone really noticing it until much later.
15. Emperor - Yusuke: Not a bad confidant, far and very far from it. I think it's just a mix between his eccentric nature and that I've never really dealt with the issue his confidant is about that makes me unable to properly adore his confidant which I've heard from artists is really damn good because it speaks to them.
16. Tower - Shinya: Out of the lowest ranked characters his story is the one that had some more interesting parts in it. Love how the PTs are so central in it from the go but it was also a bit of a blast from the past with his attitude. Seen it so much when I was younger, quite likely exhibited some parts of it myself so it was just nice to guide him right.
17. Moon - Mishima: I like how problematic he is. He is the normal guy that cower to power and strength and once he himself get into a position of power instantly lose control and we need to show him the light. He's certainly a very annoying type but it's written in the right kind of obnoxious for it to at least beat the one below
18. Devil - Ohya: Look she's not awful. I just don't like much about her. She is simply the one that gets the least + from me.
