My desktop computer is old and my laptop isn’t powerful enough to edit videos efficiently and export fast enough. Therefore, I’m looking into buying a new computer that can handle Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Optionally: gaming ability would be nice, too. I’d like to be able to get as much bang for my buck as I can. I’m considering ordering the computer components separately and putting it together myself, as that seems cheaper than buying a Dell or even a goddamn iMac (seriously, the price tag on Apples laptops and desktops is ridiculous; you’re really just paying for the brand than anything else). When it comes to shopping for computer stuff, the devil is in the details. Between a budget of $500-$1000, what would be the best value for components? What do you guys recommend? I’ve never built a workstation before, but AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series is supposed to give you a lot of bang for your buck. Maybe look into that? I know that they sell CPUs and GPUs that are meant for workstations, but they tend to cost thousands of dollars. Those are specifically created for work in the film, TV, and video game industry where there’s intensive use of VFX work, CGI, and other graphically intensive work, and I would imagine such expansive hardware is of use in the CAD world and whatever else. That’s the kinda hardware you’d have access to if you were, say, a VFX artist working for ILM or Pixar (so, Disney, basically). Certainly not able to shell out that kind of cash, nor should anyone person either. The Ryzen 3000s would probably work. I think I’ve only ever worked with computers that have an Intel chip.
