There’s an entire political party in America dedicated to climate change denialism due in part because of the embrace of religious nutjobs who think it’s fine to stripmine the planet because god said it’s okay or business men who think it’s okay to stripmine the planet because “muh profits.” It should be noted that most of those people won’t be around so suffer from the repercussions of their shortsightedness. How nice for them. Having lived in such religious circles that is a fair assessment but what is driving that is the idea that God will provide humans with a brand new Earth if this one is fucked up beyond repair. The idea that god is going give humans a mulligan is an idea that is, like its source material, pure fantasy. And Mars doesn’t count. Enjoy the year-round sub-freezing temperature, low gravity, lack of oxygen and very low atmospheric pressure. |
