I've seen a lot of this discussed before over here. I know a number of people that agree and feel strongly about every point you just made. There was a couple news stations/papers around here that decided to make their stories focus much more on the victims (although not just like the body count) rather then the killers as a result. Pretty much, the attacker should only have their name and face revealed once and that's only if they're still at large. Otherwise don't give them endless coverage as it'll only make the attackers martyrs. It really can have that effect. It also perpetuates a feeling of fear when you're constantly hearing about people that want to kill you. And of course you have people like the feamonger Dee linked who waste no time pouncing on that fear.
