To kick things off, let's start with a trailer And some contra points You haven’t seen the new Twin Peaks yet. Neither have I. Nevertheless, I’m worried. Not about the show. About its reception. I fear that a good number of viewers are going to watch the new Twin Peaks eagerly anticipating the charming, consumable, GIF-able, and meme-able elements: the comedy, the flirtations, the quizzical reaction shots, and dry banter; the ritual consumption of coffee, donuts, and pie; Agent Dale Cooper with his big grin and Audrey with her saddle shoes and skirts; the dancing dwarf, Angelo Badalamenti’s funky lounge music cues, and so on. That’s Twin Peaks, of course. But it’s not all that Twin Peaks was. And it’s not all that the new Twin Peaks will likely be. Which is a legitimate concern. The show is fuled by nostalgia and fandom, and David Lynch doesn't produce "popular" stuff. Call it pretentious or artistry, the show's return and subsequent longevity relies on a lot of things that Lynch's love for the obscure and the abstract might fail. Or not. Not going to lie, that worry is suuuuuper valid just in how audiences have changed since TP's last showing but I'm mostly hoping that because it is on Showtime and either money or effort are needed to watch it, and we know basically nothing about it, that hopefully even long term fans will get their treats. I mean I know we're getting some of the original cast back too so !!! Can his style still work? Yuuuup. Since his last actual movie is probably my second favorite of his lot. Okay now to ponder some coffee and listen to the Nightingale roughly 86000 times. I'm honestly still a bit in shock this is really happening.....

Remember the Journey through Twin Peaks video series I was on about? That kind of sums up my feelings about S2 in general. Lynch and company were left in a tough spot when their vision was compromised by the network's needs. And good choice on the soundtrack Here's a video I'm sure you will love

Lynch is more of artist and philosopher than a film maker akin to creators like Jørgen Leth, Von Trier, Bergman as s lot of his films are grounded in nuanced imagery and surrealism. His Dune film was more of a Lynch film than it was a Dune film, but didn't quite succeed on either fronts. He has been stumbling here and there and haven't made a film in a decade since Empire. He's practicing meditation currently, and not all that interested in doing film anymore, which might not bode well for Twin Peaks. Guess it depends on the directors and writers hired to write the episodes!

It confirmed a theory that has been around since season 2 ended, but otherwise it was a whole lot of "what the hell is going on???". In other words it was pretty damn good. Lots of good Black Lodge stuff in the first episodes as well. Season 3 is off to a great start. A solid 8/10 in my opinion.

As hyped as I am, going to wait til I'm done P5 (since let's face it, running multiple mentally stimulating things at once can lead to not giving either the right brain attention....) and do my planned rewatch of seasons 1 and 2 (thank fuck for my box set X3) before jumping into 3. Lurking general consensus stuff, at least from fans and it's sounding like a lot of folks find 1 and 2 weak but 3 and 4 make up for it. Obviously make of that what you will, I'm not going to let it influence me when the time comes to get into it. Smiled a bit to see people saying "You can tell Lynch had more free reign than when ABC was in charge" and hey, that makes me pretty happy. >.> But yeah I'll be keeping an eye on what you guys say too, general idea and such and even if I get to it later than the season runs, there will be words. :3

What should be considered spoilers tho? Like of course, obvious plot points are spoilers but what about a scene where someone might drink coffee and it's really funny and we mention it. Is that a spoiler? Peeps put importance on different things. But just to be safe I'll spoiler tag the following SPOILER: Click to show Lots of people are upset about the lack of any music, but they have the same idea as me that it will slowly return with the integration of Twin Peaks in the plot.

The first scene was with the trees, then from the top of my head there were the lamps as well. It's amazing how simple things like that add a layer of depth to the show. Easily represents a few of the core themes and set pieces (Lodges) of Twin Peaks, and Lynch's love for Duality/Dopplegangers.

I like the technical homages to Mullholland Dr. (my favorite from Lynch) like the aerial shots of New York, gives it an almost noir-esque vibe ala that film. Also the zigzag stripes having originated from Eraserhead, and then sort of transitions into a visual character for Twin Peaks, with it being back for The Return. I like how this latest season seems to serve as an amalgation of anything the man has made. Pretty cool.
