Some favorites of mine that often goes overlooked are some of the Dynamix games, which were a subsidiary of Sierra for a little bit "grittier" games, including fighter pilot/war titles and Betrayal at Krondor. One of my faves was Rise of the Dragon, a Blade-Runner/Shadowrun-esque adventure game set in a dystopian future, where you played a former police officer turned private detective out to solve a murder of a young girl from a dangerous drug. It had a ton of reactivity and options in how to pursue things, with multiple endings and ways to get to the finish line. If you get the chance to play this game (I believe it is freeware at this point), I'd highly recommend it. The graphics hold up really well, the story is intriguing and, as stated, the paths you can take to finish the game are quite numerous. I never played that one. But I did play Heart of China. Much the same gameplay, I think? Yes and no? Point and click adventure game fair plus some action sequences, but I found the non-linear nature of RotD to be much more enjoyable than Heart of China. I replayed Rise about 18 months ago and it holds up really well, but doesn't take all that long either, so I'd recommend spending a few nights on it as a high priority for any adventure game fans.
