To me closing comments is different from what's happening to the BSN.  I mean, yes, it all relates to reducing the ways your audience can provide feedback, share creations, and engage in dialogue.  There hasn't been dialogue with Bioware on the forums since the migration.  So for NPR or another news outlet to close their comments section, that sucks, but basically it was "Here's something we're putting out there, respond to it," and people did, with the general level of assholery which is to be expected on the internet.  But those outlets will still be putting out that content, you'll just have to find a different way to be a dick about it.  What was special about BSN was that all of the content was user generated.  And there's no way to replace that.  Sigh...  Maybe I'll head on over there and write a eulogy post.
