I'll be honest. I rarely see anything useful in the comments section of news stories. It was always dominated by people claiming that the story wasn't covering whatever they thought the REAL story was, but you used to be able to still find decent comments. Now it's just silly. NPR takes tweet, calls, and e-mails on their live shows, and they take feedback otherwise, they just don't post it publicly. That seems fine. I can see why news organizations under the crunch for money just don't want to be bothered moderating a deluge of feedback. I'm surprised newspapers still do it.
