Posted this elsewhere, but it seems relevant: I guess my main complaint about the modern glut of superhero films isn't that they aren't good; they frequently are. It's that they don't seem to be great. Certainly, the modern fixation on superheroes isn't the only time in Hollywood history where we've experience genre oversaturation; there was a time when seemingly every other movie was a Western, for instance. But the difference is that many of those Westerns went on to become all-time classics (i.e. High Noon, The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, etc.). With the exception of a very small handful of films (The Dark Knight, perhaps?), I'm not sure any of the superhero films we're getting will have that kind of staying power.

I enjoy the Marvel movies and from a storytelling 101 point of view, they do a lot of things well (certainly way better than the DC films), but often they don't seem particularly cinematic; they have a tendency to look a bit TV movie-ish with their flat lighting schemes. I haven't seen Civil War, but I probably will this coming weekend and will post some thoughts about it when I do.

Yeah they are starting to pile up. and they are "getting old". I dunno. I have had my fill of them for awhile.

And howcome the X Men are not in the Marvel universe? They are Marvel characters, and bloody Spiderman makes a cameo in Civil War. I wanted the X Men there too.

Because 20th Century Fox owns the right to the X-Men and everything associated with them.  Even the term "mutant"

It took years of legal wrangling just to get the Maximoff twins to appear in the MCU.

My secret hope is that Infinity War concludes with a universe merge of X-Men, Avengers, Ghost Rider, Blade, Punisher, and Fantastic Four.

Of course, this will never happen.

The difference is, which is why I brought up Rohm to begin with.
Is that Marvel doesn't own Rohm, the character.

But they own everything else about Rohms mythos (Direwraiths, The other Spaceknights, The Galdorians) since they did make everything aside from Rohm.

As opposed to Transformers, Gi Joe, and Godzilla. Who already had established Backstories prior to having licensed books by Marvel. Rohm was a bulky toy and nothing else.

And don't forget the Guardians Of The Galaxy.  I want them there too.
