This post made me laugh. 

I will respond seriously.

I'd prefer lesser known historical figures, or groups of women influencing history.

And I'd like it to focus on the positives of their accomplishments, and it it was achieved instead of on tasting down whatever the perceived opposition was. I'd like them to keep as much of the current issues of gender politics out of it as possible. There are ways to talk about women's history without repurposing it to fit an agenda. If there are things that speak to current issues, by all means use them as teaching moments, but you have to keep in mind our experience now is very different from historical climates.

Perhaps you would enjoy the term true feminists are using and call yourself a humanist. At least that's what the feminists who don't look/act like stereotypes call themselves...

I think the title "Women Daring To Defy History" is misleading.
The implication is that women did these amazing things to prove to men that they are as capable.

I don't think that was the case. The great examples of women are just individuals who were passionate about something.
This could be a field of study, or maybe a great cause.

Ask any woman in a STEM field or in the Military and ask her why she got involved.
I highly doubt she would answer "I wanted to prove to the men that I am every bit as capable as they are."
Chances are she went into her chosen profession because it was what she wanted to do.
No political statement. Just raw passion.

Also defying history is not quite true.
History is merely the documentation of the past. Since historical records often contradict each other, history in a way defies itself.
These women did not defy history, rather they wrote their own history.

I think the exploits of these extraordinary women get overlooked. I haven't heard of 99.9% of these fantastic women.
However, if we are to learn about them, let's do so without the lens of an ideology and without the taint of revisionist history.

Let's learn about who they were and what they did. The good and the bad. Let's see them as flawed people.

Unfortunately our male heroes have not been given a balanced treatment. Martin Luther King Junior was a fantastic orator who made great strives towards knocking down the barriers that kept ethnic minorities down in America. However he was a homophobe. He on one hand was a forward thinking egalitarian, but on the other treated homosexuals abysmally. We only see the good in him but not the ugliness that he helped propagate. I want the nastiness of the female heroes to be shown. Heck the fact that Martin Luther King Junior was of his time when it came to bigotry made him easier to relate to. Back in the 1950's it was common belief that homosexuals were to receive psychiatric treatment. Yes this is absolutely aberrant by today's standards, but back then it was normal.

The values that I hold today are of my time. However in the future people may look at my generation as bigoted. I take issue with incest. However the future generations may regard my stance on incest as bigoted. Wouldn't it be interesting if these women who were mostly ahead of their time, had values that today would be dated and make them seem loathsome?

Can the humanist motto be "don't be a dick"?

Honestly?! How are women supposed to "defy" history, are they going back in time to change history?

Joke aside, if it wasn't done by Anita I'd be interested. But she's going to spout some random bullshit about how "this female ruler fought against the oppressive male dominated society."
