If they had taken the concept of Origins and gone further with it, involving more reactivity and unique content, the sequels would have had the potential to be masterpieces. As is, they are just another ACTION GAME with a few RPG elements.. Which is increasingly treating it's own lore with writing that could be categorized as abuse. Fixed it for you. Eh. I've been thinking about this recently... some classic, older RPGs I've played, which I would undeniably classify as RPGs, had similar levels of action (or lack of character creation/agency). I think the RPG genre reach great heights in the late 90's/early 2000's, so many grognards like myself had hoped it was going to be the new standard of what RPGs would be... but that was not the case. So I don't know... the argument of "what is an RPG versus a X game with RPG elements" doesn't seem as important any more. Mostly because I'm not sure the definition of an RPG was ever that firm to begin with, despite my rose tinted glasses on the matter. But regardless - I think, besides the actual heart and care taken with DA:O in its creation and execution, it's other singular quality was the Origins themselves. The ability to play your unique intro (and have variation/options within that story to further define your personality) was unlike anything else on the market. Remove that, and it's just another game.
