Yep, I'm doing another survey for Online School. This is the last one, I promise.
But, for the topic at hand, I am curious to know how a trailer, or promotional interviews, or what have you, affects your enjoyment of a particular film or game or book, I think we've all had that one movie or game with a great trailer, and promising things expected from, only to fall flat on its face. Even if you did end up liking it.
So answer these questions please. What was the product in question? How did the marketing differ from the release? Do you think it was right to have marketing that misrepresented the final product? Did you end up liking the final product regardless? Why? Will this make you weary of future advertising?
To give an example here are my answers. 1. Iron Man 3 2. The trailers made the film appear more serious and grounded, a proper conclusion to the Iron Man films and the first best foot forward of the MCU Phase 2. Instead the movie was far more campy, comedically focused than any of the trailers were, also in the grand scheme of the MCU, pointless. None of the plot points had any impact. 3. Personally, I think it was about the only way to convince people to see it was to make it seem like the movie was good. Thus allowing it to do as well at the box office as it did. So it was financially right, but morally, it was still a big lie. 4. No. 5. Not Iron Man 3, but rather its follow-up Avengers: Age of Ultron has. Remember, it doesn't necessarily have to be a movie you hate, just something (Video Game, comic, etc) you think was marketed misleadingly.
