Gladiator? I didn't like Gladiator. Thought of it just another bundle of melodramatic historically-inaccurate tripe. I'm not the guy who gets to uppity about whether something is historically accurate or not though; in regards to Gladiator, it was mostly due to me not liking the drama all that much at all--Russel Crowe has always struck me as a kind of hammy actor in a lot of the stuff he's made which I feel strongly reflects what I didn't like about the movie. It's a fantasy film without actually being fantasy. I never understood why it won "Best Picture" at the time. He's great in A Beautiful Mind though. Granted, it was released almost 16 years ago (Time flies) and it isn't a documentary. However, Gladiator still ranks as one of my all-time favorite period dramas. The plot is a bit cliche, but the movie is never slow or boring, and the acting is top-notch (Whether you're a Crowe fan or not) It has amazing performances by Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielson, Derek Jacobi, Richard Harris, Spencer Treat Clark, & Djimon Honsou. Not to mention a partially posthumous performance by the great Oliver Reed. Just the "Busy Bees" scene alone gives me chills to this day...
