This movie is a masterpiece. Plain and simple.

One of my all time favorite movies.

Recently ordered the Blu Ray collection, which should arrive at the end of this month. Can't wait to see it again in full HD splendor.

Also one of my all time favourites.

I had both the blessing of it being included on my film module this time last year at uni, as well as the place being outfitted with a fully functioning cinema.

Meaning I got to hear that booming opening in front of the big screen, something I'm far too young to have experienced otherwise. So it was rather special.

And of course it was the film that I dedicated that subject's assignment to. 

I also listen to the soundtrack fairly regularly... though there's so many releases of that, its hard to find the truly decent ones.

What about this one??!

Granted, it was released almost 16 years ago (Time flies) and it isn't a documentary.

However, Gladiator still ranks as one of my all-time favorite period dramas. The plot is a bit cliche, but the movie is never slow or boring, and the acting is top-notch (Whether you're a Crowe fan or not)

It has amazing performances by Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielson, Derek Jacobi, Richard Harris, Spencer Treat Clark, & Djimon Honsou. Not to mention a partially posthumous performance by the great Oliver Reed.

Just the "Busy Bees" scene alone gives me chills to this day...

It actually took me some time to come around and appreciate Blade Runner for the classic it is. The first time I saw it was on VHS; my family had a tape of an older cut of the film, which featured a pretty lame voice over narration. The studios felt that audiences would not know what was going on without it, so Scott and company had to tack it on; you could tell that Ford was phoning it in ("They don't advertise for killers in the newspaper."). It also featured a more gruesome version of the scene where Roy Batty crushes Eldon Tyrell's eyes, which freaked out my teenage self. The older versions also excised the elements which suggested that Deckard was a replicant (i.e. the Unicorn dream, etc.). I'm glad the voiceovers are gone in the later versions, but I'm going to heretically suggest that maybe the story was better for not having Deckard be a replicant. Please don't kill me!

I definitely agree that Deckard is in fact a replicant; I'm just wondering if it would have been better, story-wise, if they didn't go that way. I always liked the idea that Roy Batty was teaching humanity, through Deckard, a lesson about our shared nature. If it's just one replicant talking to another, there's not any learning going on. Also, I couldn't shake the sense that Ridley Scott was throwing in a twist just because he thought it was cool (Scott got the name "Blade Runner" from an unrelated scifi novel by Alan Nourse; he does things like that).
