Update: It appears the Steam Store is back online and the issue appears to be resolved. We have yet to hear from Valve in an official capacity, and will update the blog post when we do. That makes no sense. If they are not affiliated with valve why would the store have been affected. That's bad PR spin IMHO

There are no direct hacks involved. However it was possible to view the names, emails and partial credit card and phone number details of random people depending on what information you've shared with Valve. A very good argument for sharing as little as possible or avoiding Steam altogether.

As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users. So sharing personal info isn't a warrant for concern?
