To be honest I didn't thought about USA. It's somehow true for France or Roman Empire or even Sassanian Empire at least to the first few subjects of Decadence. Decadence might be complete collapse or turning into a weak country. BTW this is not my formula, but I can appreciate truth behind anything. I'd say there certainly are cycles of growth and decline in an empire, associated with decadence and morale erosion, but the 250 year time line is what I have the most contention with. It just doesn't hold up to scrutiny, but the author reminds me of countless American "historians" who try to make the same argument, using this 200/250 year time segment to argue that America is falling apart and doomed to collapse. Not saying it's impossible, but it's all doomsday nonsense if you're trying to say it follows clockwork-type schedules.
