More illegal people arrive by plane with invalid visas and are turned back then ever arrive by boat. You don't hear much about that because the people working at airports are doing their jobs and it would kill the tourism industry..

It's not that the boats have stopped it's that any reporting of boat arrivals has been censored from the media and fines imposed on anyone leaking information. The government put that all under the banner of "operational matters" and thus it's kept secret.

Also paying the boat operators thousands of dollars to not land in Australia. Really?

I never heard tourist come to stay, unless they marry the locals... other than that they usually return.

But you will never find moderates in politics it's just a case of left and right which we are stuck with.

Most conservatives I find seem to think that we should live in the past. People like Harper and Abbott and whoever the last conservative PM of the UK was think that something like 1950 was and is the epitome of modern society.
