Doesn't deserve jail time as it'll make her look like a Martyr in some sections. But I can see that hands are tied in this particular scenario. Even though I believe that religious institutions shouldn't be forced to administer or officiate same sex marriage, it takes a special kind of stupid to refuse doing your job on religious grounds. She's not working for her local Church, she's working for the County Clerk's office. And as such, she should be expected to do her necessary duties. Do the job, abdicate the post to someone who will if you can't or face the consequences. Zero sympathy, she's an idiot. I agree. She should've been continuously fined until either she does her job or decides it's not worth the trouble of having to go against her conscience. Already you have the likes of Calgary Cruz and I<3Huckabees running to her side and claiming that she's being discriminated against. American Christians love to whine about how they're being persecuted or that there's a war on Christmas and other bullshit like that. The only reason I can think why she feels she has the right to selectively do her duties is b/c she feels that the First Amendment allows her to do so. Contrary to what many conservatives believe, the U.S. is not a Christian nation, the Constitution is not a divinely inspired document and freedom of religion does not give you the right to impose your religious beliefs on other people. Davis seems to want special accommodations for her beliefs, to wit, the ability to refuse to hand out marriage licenses to same-sex couples and still keep her job.
