Chewin and Ocelot like this

The story is good -- It might seem like there's less of it, mostly because it's not integrated into overly long cutscenes this time, they trigger as you build your army and base and do missions, and as you listen to audio tapes (which is essentially the equivalent of the codec calls this time) both optional and main missions. The interesting thing is that the fate of certain characters, like say Quiet or DD, are optional, in regards to what happens to them it's up to you. Basically, the game has taken all of the best parts of Peace Walker and nearly perfected them.. excluding the lack of co-op but there it is. The story truly kicks off a little later as you build your base. How effective is the usage of the base in the narrative? Does the gathering of resources and other aspects impact in any particular way to make it feel compelling and that it actually plays a difference, aside from factors like e.g. stats or different weapons? Okay, so, the base is your Mother Base -- It's the place you return to, whenever, to clean the blood of your suit in order to raise your psyche and morale, so Snake will aim and generally do better in the field. In other words, it's important to return and rest up for Snake, but his return will also build up morale for his troops, occasionally training with them also helps. Resources are important in order to improve your tranq rounds or other weapons, or even to use as fuel for building upgrades to vehicles, your transport helicopter, and of course weapons and other materials. There are different departments inside Mother Base too, which are occupied by your staff members and companions. They are listed as followed. Medical Facility This is where injured soldiers are treated and healing items are processed using collected medical items. Information Retrieval (Intel) This is where building plans and blueprints are formulated(Any blueprints you find in the field for new weapons) In addition to this, it also contains intel for the areas where the Diamond Dogs are currently active. Improving your Intel is neat, as it grants you tactical overview of the enemies you're up against, their capabilities how many there are etc. For instance, in one mission, my intel team were able to scout the planned route for the enemy commanders I had to take out/or extract. Base Development If you wish to develop MB more efficiently, you need to add some resources in this department. It is in this department where collected resources are further developed for new struts for your motherbase, dedicated to each unit. Support Unit This is the unit which provides you with FRS, fulton supply drops(dropping weapons or other items to you in the field) airstrikes, help you translate different languages (interpretors for when you have to interrogate local Soviet soldiers or others), provide distractions, and also provide fire support. Combat Units This carries all your best fighters and mercenaries. You can send out these mercenaries to find and recruit new soldiers, destroy enemy infrastructure, and many other things.. I assume if it's like Peace Walker, you can play as one of these soldiers when doing Side Ops Research and Development This is the department where you develop new pieces of equipment, gadgets, and even weaponry. The more staff members you invest in R&D department, the faster your pieces of equipment will get developed. In addition to this, there are departments which help you improve the skills of your buddies such as Quiet as well. There's a lot of stuff.
