To clarify -- Metal Gear Solid (most of the games) have something called a CODEC -- A communication device which purpose is to grant support to main character Solid Snake through his support team, that assists on his mission; it exists as a way for him to call them whenever he needs advice, and vice-verca, it is an in-game function as much as it serves a story function too. Snake can call his support team whenever, which sometimes will lead to interesting informative talks, to humorous conversations with said characters. In a lot of ways it serves to flesh out the characters, outside of the main story, through providing backstory information, sometimes random trivia -- It can probably be best compared to the banter system of BioWare games I suppose. For example the conversation between Solid Snake and Naomi Hunter back at Shadow Moses when Snake got captured after the Sniper Wolf battle Well, I what I wanted to point was how Metal Gear is packed with tons of optional CODEC conversations that can only be heard if the player calls them. Take Snake Eater for example -- You're never properly introduced to SIGINT until very late in the game, unless you call him yourself. In fact, if you ever call him in the game, he'll have like 3 lines in all its entirety. It's crazy to think about given his importance. Plus, we all know that Metal Gear is generally best enjoyed when on plays it themselves.
