Because you do exactly what you said lol. The underlined is more to the point, though not in the way the word reasonable is usually understood. The master troll doesn't just drop a few shock bombs, he's the guy that can and does argue for pages about increasingly shocking or disturbing things. And that's a poor choice of words because "shocking" and "disturbing" imply a more overt effect that what is achieved.

In a nutshell, the master troll flies under the radar of the threshold most people use to dismiss something as too outlandish to be serious. The sucker thinks they're having a serious debate, or more to the point that their opponent is engaging in good faith but with every post it gets subtly worse until they think you're legitimately the spawn of Satan.

The downside is it can get a little tl;dr, cutting off your mates from the joke so sometimes it pays to break off suddenly and quote their last post adding "also, cocks".
