That is an understandable if largely disappointing decision. I have to ask though: Is there no way to keep our community here alive? We're far from perfect, and I can certainly appreciate the lack of desire to moderate and manage especially with much more important things going on in your life, but this community has been literally a life raft for me at least and I suspect some others here and there as well :/. It's not the new BSN and it's not the old BSN it's just kinda us and I think many of us have known other options exist and have chosen to participate in both or simply here for a while now. At this point I think we're our own unique thing. Is there not a more moderate approach that can be taken? I am completely ready to volunteer to take full administration of the site and run it as I've run my clan of 11 years. No major changes or overhauls or upheavals, but also no chance of it falling back on your shoulders. Alternatively, can we not just close what I think we can all agree is just a problematic thread and leave it at that? It seems to me we have only one problematic thread. Much else is a peaceful and respectful interactions from what I see in my humble lurkings. I completely understand that this likely isn't up for discussion, and I respect your decision, but I would be remiss if I did not at least offer to shoulder the burden or suggest alternatives to effectively shuttering the forum. Over the past years of being here since the exodus from the original BSN you guys, this community has been here helping me through some tough and challenging times and I can't imagine I'm alone in this. I would not feel right if I didn't at least express my strong desire to see our community continue, and make an attempt to hold on to it for at least a little longer. Regardless, I can't thank the community enough for having been in so many places when I've had so few others, and for all the fond memories and shenanigans even in the now long dead pony's thread we've been together a good while and I hope in some way we can stay together. Of course, everyone here knows that other options exist and have made the choice to stay here out of loyalty, nostalgia, or other reasons dear and personal to them and I both appreciate and respect that. It's not the thread (granted, it certainly didn't help). There are some problems with a more moderate approach, at least in my eyes. The first problem is that no one has wanted to stay to moderate, what's to say that you or whomever volunteered and got it suddenly didn't want to do it one day? What if I'm not around on that day or thereafter? Whom does the site go to then? The second problem is a lesser one, but still a possibility: Only I get the ProBoards alerts, Do you remember when Korra reported us (for a thread and post that she had made, mind you) and we faced deletion if we did not remove that thread? If I hadn't been here to check my inbox to get the alert than we would have been deleted. So, what if everyone is going about their business on here and then the forums get wiped without any warning whatsoever? That'd be worse! Infinitely worse! At least right now everyone can still head out together. If there is one very funny comfort and irony to take away from this, VSN lasted longer than the original BSN. We nearly hit 5 years, pretty sure BSN (under that branding) was only around for 3 or 4, maybe even less. Those are fair points, and it's comforting to know its not just the thread, but there is at the very least a way to go about transferring the forum ownership listed in the proboards support threads. Though I'm not clear that your account would remain intact here as an independent entity. That can be fixed after the fact though. support.proboards.com/thread/561014/forum-admin-account-transfersIt does sound honestly a bit complicated but It's a process I'd be willing to go through to ensure the forum lasts another few years. We would probably have to coordinate a bit outside of this forum as well to ensure things go smoothly. But I believe that the process would address every issue short of my potential to lose interest in a few years as well, but then that will lead to another post like this and if we're lucky another conversation like this, but if not then I'll close it down in the same manner to ensure the posts live on. But for better or worse I'm still here and willing to commit. And of course with reopened registration, we could easily get you set up back in here for participation at your leisure - the burden of administration. At the very least we'd last a bit longer than quarantine and we'd keep outliving the Original BSN ;p The decision is ultimately yours and I can certainly appreciate the idea of us all going out together, but if there's a way we can keep the good feels train rolling a bit longer I am down to give it a shot, admittedly the linked method has more at risk for you than for me. Regardless its true that we did have a good run, and it's more notice than we initially got with regards to The Lobby closing on the Old BSN and I can appreciate the sentiment that we outlived the original forum and the intention of leaving off on a better note. If you want the community to continue (Generic you), then start your own forum. it's pretty simple to start one here on Proboards and there are other alternatives as well. I'm not going to as I've been mostly a lurker here for over two years and I got conned into being a moderator on another board. That being said, I will miss VSN.  It is, I've made one a while back using the VSN as a model for my clan, but the clan uses Discord primarily, and really with how social media platforms have evolved.... Forums are kinda archaic, so We have never used it beyond testing out features. I could dust it off though, and begin reconstructing the VSN over there in the next few days. If that would be an interest to folks, Link to the original threads here in order to help smooth a transition if there was enough interest in it. A transfer of authority to me seems to be the best outcome though, although I won't push for that any more than I have. It would suck to see things start from 0 again, but it would continue so long as we migrated. |
