Everything we know about Anthem, BioWare's shared-world shooterRelease date: February 22, 2019 Story: Once upon a time, an ancient, god-like, civilization known as Shapers created the Anthem of Creation to form (or terraform?) the planet where the game takes place. Then they left, but a lot of their stuff is still lying around, some of it dangerous. You're a salvager, known as a freelancer, and you're basically tasked with exploring the hostile and unpredictable world of [insert name here], and fight monsters and baddies trying to claim Shaper technology to do evil things with it. Gameplay: Four classes have been revealed: the Ranger is a close combat specialist; the Colossus is a heavy/ranged unit; the Interceptor and Storm classes are anyone's guess at this point. Javelins (the exosuits) will be customizable with stat-based upgrades and vanity items like paintjobs that are awarded via loot (and probably ingame store for the latter). You get your quests from Fort Tarsis, a large human settlement where you talk to NPCs, improve your relationships, customize your Javelin, etc. This is considered the single player portion of the game apparently. Beyond quests, you also get ops/raids called "Strongholds" for multiple players. If you simply choose to explore the world, tasks will be generated along the way (if I read that correctly). A few other things: - No companions. Real friends will be your only companions in Anthem.
- No relationships, be those romances or friendships.
- It'll be a live service, whatever that means.
- Online only.
- There'll be a beta/demo before launch.
