Basically, I want something that'll let me game for a long time and want to know if what I've chosen is a good build for my money or if it is a crap/inefficient build. You won't actually consume 1,000 W. If you get it and up running, you could buy yourself a watt meter and check out your power consumption to make sure. Incidentally, I'm building a very similar setup with a 600 W power source.

I don't think you'll be saving any money on electric bills though. Like I said, you will only consume as much power as you need to. Your power supply is basically converting AC power to DC power needed to run your computer. However, it will only convert as much as it was designed to. Think of it this way. Imagine all of your computer's components consume a total of 400 W. If you were to buy a 300 W power supply, you would only be able to supply as many as 300 W. On the other hand, if you were to buy a 500 W power supply, you'd be supplying the required 400 W with some room to spare. The power supply doesn't store energy so your computer is always getting as much juice as it needs to run, nothing more, nothing less. When I mentioned the power supply's efficiency I was thinking in terms of heat dissipation but that's basically power-related so, yeah, a more efficient power supply is bound to consume less AC power to obtain the same amount of DC power.

I didn't intend on getting so into PC games as I have, but my eyes have been opened to it and how much more freedom there is compared to console gaming (plus my Xbox One has been making some funny sounds and I've already had a PS4 die on me). I'm thinking that it is pretty much time to move away from console gaming.

Like you said, there are a myriad of titles on PC that will probably never make their way to consoles. Nonetheless, usually the most graphically-intensive games are AAAs and those do release on consoles. Key word, "usually."

True, but Mods don't, though they are allegedly coming (however they'll be heavily restricted). Plus I won't have to pay to play for online beyond the internet fee and online tends to have better deals (GOG and Steam), so this might actually save me money in the long run.

If you're going to be doing 1080p gaming, it should be able to take pretty much anything you can throw at it right now. For reference, the only option I can't max out in The Witcher 3 without seeing a major drop in framerate is Hairworks. If you're not going to be doing any sort of overclocking, you could stick with the non "K" skylake i7. It even comes with the usual cheap intel sock cooler, as opposed to the "K" model. It's actually good enough so long as your case has good airflow. It's what I'm using and the highest temps I've seen on it are around 87 Celsius, but that's only when encoding videos which makes the CPU work at 100% non stop for hours. Temperatures while gaming never really rise much beyond 80. Mind you, ambient temperature tends to be rather low where I live.

For the same price, and if you want to use a custom heatsink anyway, definitely go for the K. Assuming you don't intend to OC the ever living shits out of your system, any decent Z170 chipset MOBO will fit you perfectly without costing nearly as much. You can just stick with one of Gigabyte's Ultra Durable series (HD3/UD3) and they will serve you well. Asus also makes very high quality mainboards. All in all you can save 75 or more bucks just by shopping in another pricing class for the mainboard without losing any real performance. Money you can either put towards another component like the GPU or plain save.

It's a Q170 chipset though, so no overclocking capabilities. Kind of a waste with a K CPU. Also it has a smaller form factor and less PCIE ports. Actually it has less of everything. And no PS2 port, so no using NKR keyboards on it. My own preference is to get a motherboard that has more than what I need right now and leaves lots of room for expansion. Because swapping out a motherboard is a huge PITA. Every other component can be swapped out really easily. Well the CPU is a bit of a pain too. But the motherboard? You have to take everything apart and then rebuild it all again. So if there's one component where I'll go for something that has more features than what I really need "right now", it's the motherboard. Because I might end up wanting these features somewhere down the line.

Where do some of you get your PCs/parts for your PCs from? Does anyone have a specific build that is great and that they'd recommend? (I've been looking at towers and I'm getting more and more turned off to the idea of building a PC, so many horror stories).
